That's me, Josh Young, I started with Mercy Ships on July 13, 2011. Just 5 months earlier I had heard about the Africa Mercy and I signed up right away to work in the Galley. Being able to use my culinary education for a ministry was really exciting. The thing was they asked me to come a little earlier than planned so I could work in the Ship Shop.
Since that point. I've had 8 different positions and have served in 8 different ports of call. What started with a six month journey became a calling where I can use the skills that God has given me to glorify Him and reach others for Him.
My background in cooking is what all I though I had to offer, but through coaching and encouragement over time I have moved into some positions that also focused on supply, logistics and planning.
Food Services Manager 6.16 - 12.16
Senior Chef 7.15 - 5.16
Supply Team 6.15 - 7.15
Not only do I love the positions that I've been able to serve in, but I love the community of the Africa Mercy. My family background of working with exchange students prepared me for a ship family of often over thirty-five nationalities. Together serving Christ with our skills we can make a huge impression in the countries that we visit. Daily we see miracles happen, lives changed and countries transformed.
